A fully funded year in the USA for British student horticulturists.
The Royal Horticultural Society, in collaboration with the Garden Club of America & Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania, is offering the exciting opportunity of a 12-month practical internship in ornamental horticulture at the world-renowned Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania.
Studies in horticulture, landscape architecture and environmental studies will be centred at Longwood along with additional short placements in regional gardens.
The programme will be a highly structured, stimulating and exciting non-academic practical programme in ornamental horticulture with Fellows experiencing the different horticulture areas at Longwood such as the Conservatory, Outdoor Landscapes and Natural Lands.
Fellows will also participate in weekly learning opportunities trips to regional gardens, museums, nurseries and horticultural enterprises; they will uncover American horticultural techniques and regional plant species as well as making valuable horticultural contacts.
Applications close on 14 January 2022 and the successful candidate would start their programme in August/September 2022.
Previous recipient, Alex Summers (Head of the Great Glasshouse, National Botanic Garden Wales) commented:
“The opportunity to work in the USA and experience horticulture as an international industry proved to be both personally and professionally rewarding. It provided a different perspective to the training gained in the UK and this has been of great benefit.”
